This cake is just what i was searching for to celebrate the 90th birthday of a real lady our Mom. Our theme is springtime and this will work wonderfully esp with our mauve, yellow and white theme! Thanks "Aunt Betty"!

This cake turned out beautiful. I personalized it a bit: used a 10" and 6" cake pan (filled each layer with a different flavor and filled and baked according to pan size), pressed the coconut on the icing (toasted coconut would make a nice straw hat), and used rolled fondant to decorate (colored the fondant, rolled the fondant, and made decorations using a knife and my hands).

Very cute idea! Perfect for our surprise birthday party for my mother-in-law that we'll be having at a victorian tea house - complete with hats and all! Having a ball type pan as well, the top can be 'rounder' if you'd like. Just remember to use less cake batter for the base. Since I have craft supplies around the house, I stuck artificial flowers in rather than real. Have fun!

My first thought when I saw this cake was the "Red Hat" ladies I see everywhere. Wouldn't this make a nice treat for them with the icing tinted red and a purple ribbon and purple flowers.....Also, a great idea (as shown)for Mother's Day in another week or so..........

My dd made this for her birthday party last year, except she did it with chocolate frosting. We used black-eyed Susans, wild lilies, and some purple flowers. It was wild and colorful and almost looked too good to eat! I wish I could post a picture!
