My boys and I made these using apple slice's and hanging them with ribbons. Birds loved them and so did the squrrels.

You must mix some type of fat such as lard to the peanut butter becuase if you don't the peanut butter alone can harm the birds digestive system. We learned this in cub scouts.

I did this with my brownie troupe and they really enjoyed it. The only downside was how to vary the recipe so that it was safe for children with nut allergies.
