I lived in Germany for 6 years and Kuchen is literally translated as Cake. Nothing more than just plain cake. I love this recipe although I used pears and walnuts to make it authentic. Another tip which is hugely popular now in Germany is to cover the pear kuchen with a chili chocolate sauce that makes it delicious. Chili Chocolate is hugely popular in Germany and adds a new twist to the flavor of pear kuchen.
