Made this cake last night and came out perfect. I am not the greatest cook in the world and ever since I became a member of Betty Crocker, my cooking experience has been much easier. I also love the 'review' feature and like how the bad reviews as well as the good ones are posted for all to see and make note of. As for the cake, I used a "BC" boxed chocolate cake and then trimmed a bit. I also used Cool Whip instead of whipped cream. Followed the rest of the directions and everything was spot on. I do have one HUGE tip: to remove the cake from the spring form pan, you need to use a hairdryer for a few seconds/minute or else the cake will break. Voila, a beautiful, highly versatile cake that my guests really enjoyed-Bon appétit :)

There is no supermarket that sells gold - medal all - purpose flour. What should I do ? Can I just use a regular all - purpose flour ?

This was the first ice cream cake I've ever made and it was delish! I didn't have a spring form pan so used a 9 inch round pan lined with parchment paper and lifted the cake out before adding the ice cream. I also froze the ice cream in a 9 inch round pan overnight and put it on the cake portion the next morning. My younger brother suggested crushing up the malt balls for the top next time. I guess that means I'll be making it again!

Has anyone used a boxed brownie mix instead of the cake portion? I think it sounds better, but I wonder if it would be to hard once frozen.

Ive created the cake it was amazing but i just got one question, is the cake which is on the bottom part of it, it is kinda spongy.. Is it really like dat? Im not kinda happy with it.. I am planning to change it for the next time im going to make it thanks! :)

I am in charge of making birthday cakes at work. I made this cake and it was a HUGH hit. I read some of the alternatives that other people have made and they sound incredible as well. This cake was so easy and makes for a wonderful presentation. The cake/ice cream combination was very tasty. A definite repeat worthy recipe!

I made this for my daughter's birthday last weekend and it turned out fantastic! It didn't take a lot of time either. Since I don't have a springform pan I used two round cake pans that were the same size. I froze the cake and ice cream separately overnight then put everything together right before the party. Everyone loved it and I'll definitely be making this again by popular demand!
