This is a really cute idea! For the lady who didn't want to use coconut: you can make(or buy) extra buttercream icing and tint it the colors that you need. Then use a "grass" tip to pipe it on with. I think it is #233 from Wilton. You should be able to purchase it anywhere that sells Wilton Cake supplies such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, or Walmart. Good Luck!

Hi, this is more a question I wanted to make this recipe and no one in my family likes coconut. I was wondering what to substitute for it or what I could do to give the same look. I'll check back soon for your much appreciated input. Thanks!

I made this for my little boy's first birthday. It was such a hit with everyone! It was definitely time consuming, but not very difficult. I would recommend coloring the icing red and letting it sit for a day or two, to get even darker in color. I made the barn out of 13X9's (two layers), since we had a lot of people over. I also made more of the animal cupcakes. Making the cupcakes was a lot of fun!

I made this cake for my little man's 3rd birthday party. He wanted strawberry cake, which worked fine for this recipe, and I also made the barn as a layer cake, which worked well too. =) It was a huge hit with not only the kids, but the adults too! I had 17 people over, and it fed us all, plus lots left over. It was a fun project, although a tad time consuming, it really wasn't difficult...it would even be fun to do again WITH my 3 year old...which says a lot about the difficulty level. =) Overall, this cake was a success! Thanks Betty!

This cake was a big hit at my son's 3rd birthday! We had a farm theme and it went over big with everyone, especially the birthday boy! He kept telling us how much he loved his cake and how cute it was! We did add some cows too, that we found on another website. It was fun to make and looked great too! Not hard at all, though my mom and I are pretty "crafty" people!

I made the chickie cupcakes for our church's annual Fun Fair just a few weeks ago. They were so much fun, even my grand-daughter, Amelia could help. I used a metal disposable tray to hold them on, Betty Crocker frosting in the tube as a "glue" before putting green-tinted coconut down for the 'grass'. I used regular chocolate chips for the eyes, and candy corn for the beak. Such an easy, fun project to do if, like my grand-daughter Amelia, loves to help Grandma bake.
