I made this yesterday and am very pleased with the results. I actually used 5 medium bananas (probably a little over 2 cups) and it turned out just fine with a TON of banana flavor. I also added 3/4 C semi-sweet chocolate chips to the 2nd batch and it worked out great. Would love to see a lighter version that comes out the same.

Makes into an excellent banana-nut bread as well. Add another mashed banana and it becomes extremely moist and delicious for everyone.

I have been baking this banana cake for 25 years. My first Betty Crocker cookbook was a hand-me-down from an elderly lady I took care of my Sr. year in high school. She taught me so much about life -- and most of it revolved around baking (she ran a hotel resteraunt for 60 years.) Over the years, this reciepe has evolved. I now use oil instead of shortening, sour cream instead of buttermilk and I use mixture of whole wheat flour with regular flour. With either mixture... it comes out PERFECT every time.

Easy recipe, cake came out really good. Only thing I changed was the frosting, instead of Peanut butter I used Nutella, I think it would have been creamier frosting if heavy whipping cream was used too instead of milk, but overall it was a great cake.

I received a Betty Crocker cookbook from my sister when I got married in 1958. I made fabulous banana nut cakes from your recipe on a regular basis for many years. My family LOVED those cakes, and never tired of them. 50 years later, after having given up the beloved tattered and stained book, I obtained a 'new' one, which is entirely different, and would love to find a source for a (even torn and tattered) copy of my original book. I have never regretted anything more than giving up my Betty Crocker cookbook, but am delighted to find my favorite recipe here. Thanks for being on-line!
