Many vegetables, grains, legumes and nut products are less expensive per pound than meat, poultry, fish and seafood, so a vegetarian meal can be very easy on your budget, but will it please the whole family? Here’s a list of vegetarian meals that are sure to please the kids!
- Baked regular potatoes or sweet potatoes topped with cheese sauce, cheese, meatless chili, canned dried beans, salsa, pesto or vegetables
- Cheese or vegetable pizza
- Eggs, any style, served plain or with vegetables or cheese
- Grilled cheese sandwiches with soup
- Macaroni and cheese
- Meatless chili
- Pancakes, waffles and French toast
- Pasta, cheese-filled ravioli or cheese-filled tortellini topped with pasta sauce, or pasta tossed with olive oil or melted butter and grated or shredded cheese; serve plain or add vegetables or beans
- Quesadillas filled with foods like cheese, beans or vegetables.
- Soy-protein burgers, hot dogs and “chicken” nuggets
- Tacos filled with foods like shredded lettuce, tomatoes, beans, cheese, guacamole and salsa
- Vegetable stir-fry with rice or pasta
- Wraps or burritos—fill flour tortillas with foods like shredded lettuce, cabbage or carrots, chopped vegetables, rice, beans, cheese, peanut sauce, peanut butter and jelly, salsa or leftovers
