Chocolate-Cinnamon Letter Cookies

Make learning the alphabet fun and delicious with these chocolate-cinnamon letter cookies!

I recently bought mini letter cookies for my kids (ages 3 and 5) at a grocery store, and they were a huge hit. During snack time, the kids tried to form words with the cookies before eating them. It was great because my youngest son is at the stage of recognizing letters, and my 5-year-old is starting to learn how to read and write her first words. I was so excited about the idea that I thought I should make those cookies at home and engage the kids in the whole process so we could focus even further on the learning while having lots of fun!

My daughter wanted to open and pour the sugar cookie mix into the bowl.

My son decided we should make this a chocolate-cinnamon cookie because those are some of their favorite flavors.

We all helped mix the dough with our hands–that was their favorite part! Then, we transferred the dough to a floured surface, and my daughter rolled it out.

We tried to make mini letter cookies, but it turned out to be a huge mess. The dough sticks to the mini cutters and breaks apart when you try to remove them. I recommend using larger letter cookie cutters. That was easier and less frustrating for the kids.

Here are some of them just out of the oven.

Once the cookies were cool, we starting playing and eating! My daughter immediately formed her name.

I then grabbed flash cards. The kids started challenging each other to guess what letter the word on the card started with.

If they got it right, they could eat that letter!

They had such a great time playing with their food…and this time I encouraged it!
