My daughter is a firm and devoted lover of muffins–particularly the big overflowing tops. While I sometimes will indulge her frequent grocery store requests (“Can I have a muffin? Pleaaaaase? Pretty please?”), I like making them at home more. Nothing compares to a freshly baked, sweet warm muffin.
One of my personal favorite muffins is blueberry, especially if it has tart wild blueberries, which nicely offset the sweetness batter. This version of the classic blueberry muffin takes it a little further with the addition of white chocolate chips and a streusel topping, making it truly special.
Looking for other ways to elevate your favorite muffin recipe? Here are a few ideas:
- Double the berries! More berries can be delicious. You can either add more of the same berry or mix in a second kind for variety.
- Toss in some chocolate. About ½ cup of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips or chocolate chunks is a great addition to any muffin recipe.
- Top it. Streusel is a fabulous topping for muffins. But also try sprinkling on some course-grain sugar before baking. Or dip baked muffins in butter and then a little sugar for a crowning touch.
- Reheat muffins and serve with a pat of butter. It’s amazing how wonderful a salty pat of butter can taste on a warm muffin.
