Learn how to make homemade croutons.
Cut bread into 1/2-inch slices; spread one side with softened butter or margarine. Cut into 1/2-inch cubes. Sprinkle with chopped herbs, grated Parmesan cheese or spices if desired. Cook in ungreased heavy skillet over medium heat 4 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden brown.
