Nutmeg
Whole nutmeg is the seed from the nutmeg tree, a tropical evergreen. The hard seed, shaped like an egg, is grayish brown and about 1 inch long. The seed is covered with a membrane that is made into the spice mace. Nutmeg is sold whole or ground. The flavor is sweet and spicy.
How to Use
Apple and pear desserts, beverages, cakes, cookies, parsnips, puddings, sauces, sweet potatoes and winter squash.
