Celery
Celery is so popular it has become a color descriptor for that wonderful, fresh, light-green color. Celery grows in bunches that consist of stalks with leaves surrounding a tender, choice heart. It has become a staple in most refrigerators, served raw with or without a dip or cooked in soups, stews and casseroles.
How to Buy
Choose crisp, unblemished stalks with fresh leaves.
How to Prepare
Remove leaves and trim off root ends. Remove any coarse strings. Wash celery; cut stalks into 1-inch pieces.
How to Cook Conventionally
Boil: 15 to 20 minutes or until crisp tender.
Steam: 18 to 20 minutes or until crisp-tender.
How to Microwave
Add 2 tablespoons water. Microwave 7 to 11 minutes or until crisp-tender.
How to Store
Store celery in a plastic bag in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Leave the stalks attached to the bunch until ready to use.
