Using a meat thermometer is the best way to be sure meats, poultry and fish are cooked to a safe temperature. A meat thermometer is inserted into meat and poultry and left in during cooking. An instant-read thermometer takes an almost immediate temperature reading of food; it’s made of plastic so cannot be left in the food while it cooks.
