Help kids practice their fractions while making yummy Chocolate-Peppermint Poke Cake.
Half a whole lot of fun making a deliciously ooey-gooey Chocolate-Peppermint Poke Cake with your child. It’s an easy, hands-on way to see exactly how fractions work and why they’re important to understand. Plus, having a treat at the end is twice as nice!
Turn the fraction of your groceries featuring Box Tops into a higher number by keeping a list of all Box Tops products on the refrigerator or inside a cabinet door.
Work through doubling fractions by doubling the recipe. Have your child do the math using paper, then help put their answers to the test. To see that a doubling a half-cup equals one cup, fill the half-cup measuring cup twice and pour into the one-cup cup. Your child will see that two half-cups go into making one cup.
Instead of using the exact measuring cups and spoons called for, propose a challenge to your child: make the recipe using only a quarter-cup, a third-cup, and a quarter-teaspoon to measure the ingredients.
