Won’t you come into our kitchen? Behind the scenes at the beloved Betty Crocker Kitchens.

The Betty Crocker Kitchens feature more than 13,595 square feet of space with 19 fully equipped individual kitchens designed for developing more than 1,000 new recipes each year.

Two-story atrium windows create an open, bright atmosphere, and allow all company staff and visitors to view the recipes of the day as they walk by. Ergonomically designed workspaces accommodate the various needs of the Betty Crocker Kitchens, remodeled in 2003, and include more than 1,500 linear feet of cabinets and storage rooms.

The Betty Crocker Kitchens experts are immersed in food culture and are busy creating and testing new ideas to inspire home cooks around the world every day.

Recipes of all kinds, from drinks and desserts to dog treats, are constantly in development. Testing happens daily, as kitchen experts experiment with all-time favorites, new ideas, fresh ingredients and hot trends.

Recipes are evaluated by a panel of expert cooking staff and tested on a variety of ovens and cooking equipment to ensure their success for the average home cook. Visit Ask Betty to ask a question of your own!

Believed to be America’s largest corporate cookbook library, complete with 1,260 feet of rolling book shelves for easy access, the library houses the entire Betty Crocker cookbook catalogue.

The library is a resource for all employees, with 11,000 books and more than 100 magazines on topics related to cooking, nutrition and health. The oldest cookbook in its collection is The Receipt of Ann Belencowe from 1694.

A 375-square-foot walk-in refrigerator holds all the many perishable essentials the kitchen staff uses every day.

Entering the 222-square-foot walk-in freezer is not always a favorite assignment for kitchen staff, but they are provided Arctic-appropriate gloves, sweaters and heavy parkas to enter the -30°F room.

Grocery lists from all kitchen staff are due at 4 p.m. every day. The kitchen uses a dedicated grocery shopper to stock up daily for all recipe-development and -testing needs. The kitchen experts use a variety of brands, from name brands to store brands and kitchen favorites, to ensure that every home cook will have a consistent result.

The kitchen experts conduct tests on a wide variety of pots and pans—plus, imagine a wall of different slow cookers!—to guarantee food safety and recipe success.

Once the recipes are created, tested, tried and true, they’re ready for their big moment in the photo studio. The Betty Crocker prop room is stocked with plates, bowls, utensils and all the goodies that help create a seasonal feel for every recipe you see in cookbooks, magazines or on BettyCrocker.com.

What host with the most doesn’t dream of a roomful of serving dishes and table decoration in every imaginable size and color? The prop room is also home to Betty Crocker red chef’s coats and aprons to protect kitchen staff from all the many spills that happen in an average day of kitchen tests.

A specially designed soundproof media kitchen studio features a moveable island and extra high ceilings to accommodate heavy-duty lighting and sound equipment used for the broadcasts and videos filmed here.

Since 1921, eight portraits have served as the face of Betty Crocker. (Learn more about the artists here.) The conference room where the portraits live today plays host to all-important visitors, events and cooking demonstrations.
