Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup maple-flavored syrup, real maple syrup or packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweetened dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup dried apricots, cut in half
  • 2 pears or apples, peeled and cut into bite-size pieces
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Steps

    In 2-quart saucepan, mix all ingredients until blended. Heat to boiling over medium high heat; reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered 8 to 12 minutes or until pears are tender.

    Let stand at room temperature 10 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks. Serve compote warm or cold.

    Make the compote up to 4 days ahead of time; cover and refrigerate. Serve cold, or reheat in the microwave on High 1 to 2 minutes until warm.
  • tip 2
    Substitute ground cinnamon for the pumpkin pie spice, raisins for the cranberries and dried peaches for the apricots.
