Created after the end of World War I and named for the motorcycle attachment, the traditional version of this cocktail always includes a sugared rim.

Ingredients

  • Sugar
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • 2 tablespoons cognac or brandy (1 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (1 oz)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice (3/4 oz)

Steps

    Rub rim of chilled martini glass with water; dip rim of glass in sugar.

    In martini shaker with ice, shake cognac, liqueur and lemon juice until blended. Pour into glass, straining out ice.
