Sugar cookie mix and spices bake up into a Mexican classic.

Ingredients

3/4
teaspoon ground cinnamon
2
tablespoons sugar
1
pouch Betty Crocker™ sugar cookie mix
2
tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/3
cup butter or margarine, softened
1
egg
1/2
teaspoon anise seed
1/2
teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • 1 In small bowl, combine sugar and 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Set aside.
  • 2 In medium bowl, combine cookie mix, flour, butter, egg, anise seed, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon until soft dough forms. Roll into 30 (1-inch) balls. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls 1 inch apart.
  • 3 Bake at 375° F for 9 to 12 minutes or until set and light golden brown around the edges. Cool 1 minute; remove to cooling rack.

Expert Tips

Anise seeds come from the plant of the parsley family. The greenish brown seed has a sweet black licorice flavor.
