Vermouth-fortified, sweetened wine flavored with herbs--is a key ingredient in the martini, the Manhattan and other classic cocktails.

Ingredients

  • 4 maraschino cherries with stems
  • 1/2 cup small ice cubes or cracked ice
  • 2/3 cup bourbon or whiskey
  • 1/3 cup sweet vermouth
  • 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon bitters (4 dashes)

Steps

    Chill four 3-oz. stemmed glasses in freezer.
  • 2
    To serve, place cherry in each chilled glass. Place ice cubes in pitcher. Add bourbon, vermouth and bitters; stir until blended. Pour into glasses, straining out ice.
