Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

Golden delicious apples are transformed in just 45 minutes into sweet and cinnamony homemade applesauce. Serve it chilled on its own or as a warm side dish.

Golden Delicious apples, peeled, chopped
tablespoon fresh lemon juice
cup granulated sugar
cup packed dark brown sugar
cup water
slices lemon peel (cut with a vegetable peeler or paring knife)
cinnamon sticks (3 inch)

  • 1 In 6-quart stockpot or Dutch oven, place all ingredients. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; cook uncovered 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender.
  • 2 Remove from heat; discard lemon peel and cinnamon sticks. Let apple mixture cool slightly, about 10 minutes; puree in a food processor, blender, or mash with a potato masher. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Expert Tips

To give your applesauce an extra-spicy kick, stir in a heaping tablespoon of ground cinnamon along with the other added ingredients.
