Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Mexican chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 3 tablespoons kosher (coarse) salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon arbol chile powder

Steps

    In medium bowl, stir all ingredients until well combined.

    Divide among 3 (4-oz) jars or containers with tight-fitting lids. Cover.

    Give as a gift. Decorate each jar with ribbon and a tag.
  • tip 2
    If you cannot find arbol chile powder, substitute ground red pepper (cayenne).
  • tip 3
    This rub is quite spicy; for a milder taste, reduce the red pepper flakes to 1 teaspoon and the arbol chile powder to 1 teaspoon.
