This is a very good recipe. The crust is very tasty in contrast with the apples. I added nutmeg and cinnamon in the flour mixture as well for extra flavor and did not use the caramel sauce and it was excellent. Next time I will try the recipe with pears.

Other than a huge difference in cooking time (almost an hour for me - 30 mins at 400, 30 mins at 350) this was a great recipe. Very simple and yields great results. Served with vanilla ice cream it was delicious!

Absolutely fantastic! Used a combination of Red Delicious and Gala (the Gala were sweet, though the Reds didn't wow), and added cinnamon and cloves to the sugar mixture you toss the apples in. One note: I had way too many apples to fit into the crust. I was planning on making 2 and made 4 (whipping up more dough as I went along). But maybe that was just me. My brother suggested adding raisins to the apples, and I may try dried cranberries or raspberries later as I like tart flavors. Oh yeah, and remember that most refrigerated pie dough contains lard (an issue for me). Just something to keep in mind.
