Cereal Crafts: Valentine’s Box Brainstorm!

One cereal box has endless possibilities when a bunch of adults have the chance to be a kid again!

The night before Valentine’s Day last year I had to run to buy a pair of shoes just so my daughter had a shoe box to make her Valentine’s box. Seriously!

I wish I would have looked in the pantry first. There, I had at least 6 or 7 cereal boxes. But in my 18 years as a parent of 3, I have never once thought to use cereal boxes for Valentine’s boxes. Finally, this year, the light went on!

With this fun idea in hand, I challenged the Betty Crocker.com team to see what kind of Valentine’s Day boxes we could make out of Big G® Cereal boxes. The most important lesson learned while crafting: the possibilities are endless.

Armed with full boxes of cereal, rolls of wrapping paper, stickers, ribbon, glitter pens and a hot glue gun, 15 adults set out to create something most of us haven’t made since grade school. And the ideas that poured out were amazing! Cheerios® boxes were the group favorite because the heart on the front makes a perfect place to cut a slot or door.

Kayla, our associate editor, created the amazing mobile phone box. Ian, a web designer, went big with an incredible Hot Lips box, a favorite of our Facebook fans.

Thinking back on all the years spent trying to cover, paint, decorate and cut holes in a shoe box makes me cringe! Cereal boxes make the most versatile Valentine’s Day boxes ever!
