Plate Designs, How to Make
Plate painting is a fun way to create a designer look. Pick a dessert sauce, or use a purchased sauce and start painting. Start by pouring sauce into a plastic squeeze bottle (like a honey bottle) or small resealable plastic food-storage bad (snip off a tiny corner), then gently squeeze sauce onto dessert plates to create one of the following designs:
Hearts - Drop pool of two contrasting sauces, alternating colors, to form a ring on dessert plate. Drop dime-size dots of a contrasting sauce on every other pool. Draw the top of a knife or toothpick through the centers of the dime-size dots in a circle to make heart shapes.
Herringbone - Spoon sauce evenly onto dessert plate. Draw three stripes of a contrasting sauce across the first sauce at about 1-inch intervals. Draw the tip of a knife or toothpick through the stripes in alternating directions.
Spiderwebs - Draw a small ring of sauce in the center of dessert plate. Make a larger ring around the smaller ring, about 1 inch apart, then add a third and larger ring. Starting at the center and moving to the outside ring, draw the tip of a knife or toothpick through the sauce rings toward the outside edge of the plate; repeat, making a web design.
Spirals - Draw a spiral with the sauce starting in the center of dessert plate to within 1/2 inch of the rim. Draw mini spirals evenly spaced on the plate rim.
NOTE: If sauce is too thick, heat in the microwave just until thin enough to drizzle.
