  Scallops, Sea

A bivalve mollusk and fan-shaped shells. The entire scallop is edible, although the muscle that hinges the shell is the portion usually sold in the U.S. Scallops are classified as either bay or sea. Sea scallops, about 1-1/2 inches in diameter, are the larger of the two and are more readily available.
