  Electric Mixer

There are two types of electric mixers: handheld and stand.

Handheld Mixer - The motor in a handheld mixer isn't as powerful as the one in a stand mixer.  A handheld mixer is great for beating eggs, whipping cream and mixing all but the thickest mixtures such as stiff cookie dough or yeast dough.

Stand Mixer - Has a more powerful motor than the handheld mixer.  Since the mixer is attached to a stand, your hands are free while it mixes. It often comes with added attachments, including a dough hook.
