Slow-Cooker Asian Hoisin Ribs

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds pork bone-in country-style ribs
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/3 cup seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated gingerroot or 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil, if desired
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, if desired

    Place ribs in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker. Cover with onion slices. Mix remaining ingredients except cilantro; pour over ribs and onion.

    Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until ribs are tender.

    Remove ribs to serving platter; keep warm. Skim fat from surface of juices in cooker. Serve ribs with sauce; sprinkle with cilantro.

  • The sesame oil adds a nice subtle sesame flavor to the ribs. However, if you don't have sesame oil, sprinkle the ribs with toasted sesame seed before serving.
  • Serve these ribs with bowls of steaming rice and Chinese-style coleslaw. Finish the meal with fresh pineapple chunks sprinkled with chopped fresh mint.
