After one sip of this refreshing and bracing beverage, you just might believe the legend that this was Hemingway's favorite cocktail.

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • 6 tablespoons light rum (3 oz)
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (2 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons grapefruit juice (1 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup
  • 1 lime slice

Steps

    In highball or tall glass over ice, mix rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice and simple syrup. Garnish with lime slice.

  • tip 1
    To make a frozen version of this cocktail, place all ingredients in a blender. Cover and blend on high speed until ice is crushed and drink looks frothy. You can also shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and pour into a chilled cocktail glass, straining out the ice.

    A Havana bartender is credited with creating this daiquiri-like cocktail for one of his famous patrons, author Ernest Hemingway, in the 1920s.
