Cranberry and spices provide flavorful addition to wassail that is ready in 20 minutes. Perfect drink to serve for Christmas.

Ingredients

  • 6 whole cloves
  • 6 whole allspice
  • 1 bottle (48 oz) cranberry juice cocktail (6 cups)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine
  • Orange slices, if desired
  • Cinnamon sticks, if desired

Steps

    Tie whole spices in 2 layers of cheesecloth or place in tea ball.

    In large saucepan or Dutch oven, mix cranberry juice cocktail, brown sugar and nutmeg; add spices. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved. Reduce heat. Cover; simmer 10 minutes.

    Stir in wine; cook until thoroughly heated. Remove spices. Serve wassail warm; garnish each glass with orange slice and cinnamon stick.
