Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 package (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
  • 2 1/2 cups finely crushed vanilla wafer cookies (about 55 cookies)
  • 2 cups ground walnuts
  • 1/3 cup port, sweet red wine or apple juice
  • About 1/2 cup coarse sugar crystals (decorating sugar)

Steps

  • 1
Heat honey and chocolate chips in 3-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted; remove from heat. Stir in crushed cookies, walnuts and port. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar crystals.
  • 2
Store in tightly covered container. Let stand several days to blend flavors. Flavor improves with age up to 4 weeks.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Omit chocolate chips and do not heat honey. Substitute dry white wine for the port. Mix all ingredients except sugar. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar. Continue as directed.
  • tip 2
Just substitute rum or bourbon for the port. Prepare as directed.
