Ingredients

  • Fun-size candy bars, unwrapped
  • Candy bar miniatures, unwrapped
  • Chocolate frosting (from 16-oz. can)
  • Bite-sized round buttery crackers and/or bite-sized creme-filled sandwich cookies, separated
  • Frilly-topped toothpicks
  • Assorted candies

Steps

  • 1
For each engine, attach candy bar miniature to top of fun-size candy bar with frosting. Attach bite-sized cookie halves to sides as wheels. To form smokestack, attach 1 candy, wide end up, to top with toothpick.
  • 2
For coal car or log car, with frosting, attach crackers to fun-size bar. With frosting, attach candies for cargo or pretzel sticks for logs. Let stand until frosting is set.

  • For the most festive candy train, purchase gumdrops and candy-coated chocolate pieces in holiday colors.
  • To avoid breaking a candy bar during assembly, insert a toothpick completely through a gumdrop. Place the gumdrop on a candy bar and continue pressing the toothpick through the candy bar.
  • Let kids have fun making a candy train for each guest at the dinner table. Use paper place mats and show the kids how to draw railroad tracks for the trains along the edges.
