Plan ahead for busy nights by making a big batch of this classic beef-sausage combo. With some stashed in the freezer, you’ll be prepared when time is tight. MORE+ LESS-

The hearty base of many classic Italian recipes, this make-ahead seasoned ground beef and sausage should be a mainstay in your freezer. (Four cups of the prepared mixture is equivalent to 1 lb. ground beef, ½ lb. ground sausage and ½ c. onion, cooked.) Here’s how to prepare it!

Step 1:

In a 12-inch skillet, cook all ingredients over medium-high heat 10-15 minutes until browned, stirring frequently. Cover; reduce heat to medium-low. Cook 5-6 more minutes, stirring occasionally; drain. Cool 5 minutes.

Step 2:

Line rimmed sheet pan with foil, spray with cooking spray and spoon mixture onto foil.

Step 3:

Use the back of the spoon to ensure the meat is spread evenly on the pan.

Step 4:

Freeze about 1 hour, stirring once, until firm.

Step 5:

Divide mixture by 2- or 4-cup quantities into resealable freezer bags or containers. Label and freeze up to 2 months.
