My go-to dessert this fall will be these Salted Caramel Apple S’more Bars. Each bite of the bars gives you a little taste of caramel apples and s’mores. It is a nice way to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. A graham cracker cookie base is topped with layers of gooey caramel, apples, marshmallows and Golden Grahams® cereal. Of course, there is also chocolate!
First, you need to gather your ingredients and mix the graham cracker cookie base.
In a mixer or a large bowl, mix the butter and sugar together. Add in the vanilla and eggs; continue to mix. In a bowl, stir together the flour, Golden Grahams® crumbs, baking powder and salt. Slowly add the flour mixture until you have a soft but pliable cookie dough. Set aside 1 cup of dough.
Pat the remaining dough into a greased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
While the crust is baking, you can sauté the apples with the butter and brown sugar in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. You want them to be soft but not mushy. Take the pan out of the oven and pour the apples on top. Sprinkle with the remaining salt.
Crumble the reserved dough evenly over the top.
Sprinkle the marshmallows, chocolate chips and Golden Grahams® cereal on top and return to the oven. Bake 10 more minutes or until the top is browned.
One of the things I love about bars is how versatile they are. Cut them up and they are tasty on their own. Or place a warm bar on a plate and top with plain Greek yogurt or vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel for a fancier dessert. Either way, watch the bars quickly disappear!
