Homemade Cherry Marshmallows

Take your hot cocoa or holiday dessert to the next level by topping it with these homemade marshmallows.

As convenient as it is to buy everything premade or prepackaged at the store, sometimes the homemade version is just too good to pass up.

Take these homemade Cherry Marshmallows, for example. They’re simple to make and require few ingredients (most of which you probably already have on hand). Plus, the taste is so delicious and unique that you’d be hard-pressed to find it anywhere else but in your own kitchen. It might be easy to resist hot cocoa with marshmallows on top, but hot cocoa with Cherry Marshmallows on top? Who can say no to that?

Any cherry jam or preserves will do, but I prefer to get the best quality stuff for this recipe—it is the star of the show, after all. The aroma of warm sugar and sweet cherry when you heat the mixture on the stovetop is so tantalizing. Good thing it’s mighty hot, or I might eat the whole thing before it ever reaches marshmallow stage!

My favorite part of this recipe is watching the mixture transform into that familiar marshmallow form. Again, it’s hard to resist scooping up bits of fluff with your fingers, but the end result is worth waiting for.

I like to put a swirly design on top of my marshmallows. You can leave out the food coloring, or mix it completely into the fluff before pouring into the prepared dish so you’ll have bright pink marshmallows.

Either way, once you take a bite of a fluffy, sweet homemade marshmallow, you’ll wonder why you didn’t make these from scratch sooner.
