A European fungus that is one of the world's most expensive foods. It grows near roots of trees and is hand-harvested, resulting in the high cost. Used in sauces, omelets and as an accompaniment. Available fresh, frozen, canned and in paste form. Truffle is also the term for a rich confection of cream, sugar and various flavorings such as chocolate, liqueur, nuts and spices. It's usually dipped in chocolate.
