The dried flower bud of the tropical evergreen clove tree. Whole cloves are reddish brown and shaped like nails. Cloves are sold whole or ground. The flavor is sweet and peppery. Great in baked beans, desserts, fruits, gravies, ham, meats, pickling, pork, sausages, stews, syrups, tea, vegetables.
Store in a cool, dark, dry place.
