Savor the sweetest slice of watermelon you'll ever eat! The chocolate seeds are a melt-in-your-mouth prize.

I liked this cake. I also changed out the kool aid for watermelon jello pkg and it was fantastic. It tasted like a slice of watermelon.

I HAVE MADE THIS RECIPE FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS NOW. I WOULD USE WATERMELON JELLO IN THE CAKE AND IN THE FROSTING. I HAVE NOW BEEN UNABLE TO FIND WATERMELON JELLO FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW. YOU CAN ADD A SMALL BOX OF ANY FLAVOR (DRY MIX)JELLO TO CAKE MIX. YUMMM. YOU CAN ALSO ADD (TO TASTE) JELLO MIX TO CANNED FROSTING.

I made this cake with the strawberry cake mix instead. It was amazing and really easy to bake. :)

I think this is a cute idea and it tastes pretty good too. I did leave off the jelly beans (don't like them) and did a toothpick design in the green to look like rind. I don't care for artificial watermelon flavor so stuck with the cherry. Love it with the chocolate chips and cherry flavor.

It's Watermelon people! Use watermelon flavored jello to flavor the cake! For the rind, no jellybeans! This isn't an Easter cake. I dipped a toothpick in dark green paste food coloring and ran it through the icing for the distinctive striations on a watermelon rind. (That's what the green icing on the cake represents). Great idea,Betty, just executed poorly. But thanks for the Idea! :D

Yummy I have had this before. I think I'm going to try it with my cream cheese frosting, strawberry cake, white chocolate chips, and fresh strawberries instead of jelly beans. Hopefully it will turn out as yummy as I am imagining it tasting.

I think I would do the same as curtisjacob.. I just find unsweetened drink mixes does nothing.. I want that actual flavor of the jello as compared to a vanilla taste.. I'm not a fan of vanilla.. BUT the cake is so cute!!!

I have a question. The cake mix makes 2 8 or 9 inch cakes. Do you make 2 watermelon cakes or do you put them together somehow? Thanks!

User @Kpeeler was right, adding Jello mix made all the difference in my opinion. I added it both to the cake mix and the frosting(I used a blend of cream cheese and betty crocker frosting for thickness). This was one of the first cakes I have ever decided to get creative with and it is an excellent cake in my opinion. The cake actually tasts like a watermelon, and is so simple to make with such a nice fun presentation. I am taking this idea and creating a blueberry next week! Highly suggest trying this one out for a fun event.
