I have been making this cake for over 20 years. I've always replaced the coconut with crushed wheaties, skipped the nuts and doubled the topping just because it is sooooo good!!!! I honestly could eat a whole cake by myself. If you've never tried the wheaties, give it a try-it's really good! This is a classic that will be around forever!

Thanks for posting this recipe. My mom was baking it the day she went into labor to have me! No, I won't say the year. She made it for us many times growing up and I made it for years but with moves lost my 8 1/2 by 5 small Bisquick recipe book that it was in. I will make it using the Heart Smart Bisquick version. Thanks again!

This cake was fabulous. Years ago I made a coffee cake with Bisquick, and didn't like it. Thought I would give this a try. Used cereal for a topping and loved it. Can't wait to try different variations.

I've made this cake since the 60s. Always a success. One thing I usually do differently - substitute peach juice from the can (lite okay) for most of the milk (at least half). Add vanilla to the mixture. Once cake is in the pan, add sliced peaches. Cover with either the topping used here, or just a little brown sugar and cinnamon - either are great.

I found this recipe (as well as many others) on the Betty Crocker and Bisquick web. The Velvet Crumb Cake is fantastic in a lunch box. Such good memories of all sorts of good things on a lunch break! Thank you Betty Crocker for such a simple and wholesome recipe that is also very versatile!

I always "play" with recipes using this or that. This velvet cake I "tweeked" it alittle with fabulous results! I doubled the recipe using almond extract and ground cinnamon in place of the vanilla. ( I was out of vanilla at the time )Right before putting into a 9x13 pan, I gently folded in 1 cup of fresh blackberries out of my garden and baked it following the recipe guidelines. I tripled the topping recipe and followed the recipe again. ( I like alot of strusel) It was to die for! Trust me on this, you will love it! I never have any complaints. I never have any left, period! lol :o) Enjoy! Bon Appetito

I use the cake part of the recipe for blueberry muffins. Just add I cup or more of fresh or frozen blueberries, then bake in muffin pans. My favorite pan is called a muffin top pan, its wider and shallower than a standard muffin pan. Makes the muffins much easier to eat.

This is one of the All Star recipes from years ago, that my Mom made when I was little. It was great then and great now. Like some remember the original topping was made with crushed cereal, which I tend to lend towards. Also, like others, I use just the cake and top with strawberries and whip cream. My latest experiment was to do this in cupcake tins, as I wanted little, easy to grab portions...gotta remember to grease and "Flour" my cupcake tin, as I really had the crumb part and muffin tops, still yummy, just crumby. Hubby said it gets broken up anyway when you want milk on your cake and strawberries.

I make this cake all the time with a twist. I make the velvet crumb cake and bake it alone, then when it cools from oven, I put one large can of peaches, juice and all into blender just to chop, add to cake, which I have broken up, then make real whip cream for the topping and let it set in the refrigerator for several hours. I've had many compliments and it's a very nice summer dessert

This is the crumb cake I remember from years and years ago. My mother made it almost every week. To tell the truth, it's much better than the Streusel Crumb cake because it is more moist. I am so happy to see it again because I had forgotten the amounts of each ingredient. Can't wait...I'm going to make it for Mother's Day as a tribute to my Mom.
