Veal Paprika

Ingredients

tablespoons all-purpose flour

teaspoon salt

pounds veal stew meat

tablespoons vegetable oil

medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)

can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1
can (5 ounces) evaporated milk
2
tablespoons paprika
1
tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
6
cups hot cooked noodles, for serving

  • 1 Mix flour and salt in resealable plastic bag. Add veal; shake until evenly coated. Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Cook veal in oil about 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until brown.
  • 2 Mix veal and remaining ingredients except noodles in 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker.
  • 3 Cover and cook on low heat setting 6 to 8 hours or until veal is tender; stir.
  • 4 Serve veal mixture over noodles.

Paprika not only adds flavor to dishes but also adds color and a delightful aroma. The flavor of paprika can range from mild to pungent and hot, and the color can vary from orange-red to a very deep red. Most supermarkets carry only mild paprika, so you may want to check at an ethnic market for a more flavorful, hotter Hungarian paprika.

The flavor of paprika is also excellent with beef, so try this savory dish with beef stew meat.

Toss the noodles with poppy seed for a little crunch before serving with the veal mixture. To complement the flavor of the paprika, spoon a dollop of sour cream on top of each serving. A sprinkle of chopped fresh dill weed also adds a "fresh-flavor" lift to this dish.
