This was decadent. My husband said "it was very rich and I loved how chocolately it was". A few changes/tips: it took double-triple the time to thicken than listed, I added some Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips with the butter step, I used Hershey's cocoa (not sure if Dutch processed), and you don't have to put it in one bowl, just straight into individual cups is fine. Add a dollop of homemade whipped cream to the top and it's great!

I have always used the Vanilla Cream Pie recipe (Chocolate Cream was a "variation") in the old Betty Crocker's Cookbook I received as a gift the year I got married... 1965. It was my cooking "bible" for years! However; with the Internet, it's to easy to expand. I compare lots of recipes. I must say this "Ultimate" Chocolate Pudding is even better... or at least that's what hubby says, and he KNOWS chocolate. It tastes richer and I noticed while preparing that it didn't take eggs... thought that was different.
