Chocolate, caramel and nuts create the classic turtle flavors that are anything but slow in leaving a serving tray.

I made these cookies last night to take to a special event; they are very attractive cookies and I know they will stand out among the others on the cookie platter. The dough looked like it was going to be crumbly but I continued to mix it in my stand mixer and eventually the dough came together very nicely. I was working with very soft butter which might have helped with the dough not being crumbly. Getting the caramel onto the cookie edges was somewhat difficult. Dipping didn't work at all so I used an offset spatula to trowel it on. As the caramel cooled it wouldn't stick to the cookies, so I ended up reheating it several times which was time consuming. Next time I think I will dip the sides in chocolate, and drizzle with the caramel as I think the chocolate would be easier to work with. I like the idea of using caramel dip, but I worry it wouldn't harden enough to be able to transport the cookies without ruining the look of the pecans on the edges. The cookies as a whole are tasty, with the flavors of chocolate, pecans, and caramel blending nicely. Unfortunately, the shortbread itself is bland. Using a better shortbread will take these cookies up a notch into the "exceptional" range.

I had alot of problems with the dough. It was so crumbly even adding the extra butter. They fell apart very easily while dipping in caramel. I ended up with broken cookies. Could not serve these to friends. Next time I will use my grandmothers recipe for the shortbread.

For some reason, I had a difficult time with the shortbread cookies.....not sure why they wouldn't stay together, I added the additional 2 TBSP of softened butter as the recipe stated if the mix was 'crumbly', but to no avail. My cookies were falling apart - and were very fragile while going through the carmel/nut dipping process. They did taste great though. Another reviewer said she used a different shortbread recipe.....I may do that next time.

I did not use the shortbread recipe that came with this recipe, i used one that I know and love. I also could not reproduce the design of these cookies, the melted caramels were way to hard to work with, however after I added a tiny bit of milk the caremel thinned and made it easier to work with. I must say the flavour of pecans, caramel and chocolate is so good that these cookies will turn out as long as the cookie base is good. So i suggest asking around for a good shortbread recipe and then take it from there!! In the end these cookies turned out Awesome and so GOOD!!

OK...I should have read these reviews before attempting. We were pretty bummed out and upset. OK. We made the cookies the first time and followed the directions to a tee...they were soooo crumbly and just sucked. So we trashed them and tried again thinking maybe we missed an ingredient. NOPE. Same only worse. Tasted like sand. Even the 6 and 4 year were spitting them out. I kept thinking maybe an egg needed to be added or something. If I ever bother to make these again, I will try aar427's suggestions and others below.... good luck, there are better recipes out there

I made these for a cookie swap and they were a huge hit! I had similar problems as other members. The shortbread breaks apart fairly easily, so I made the next batch with a little less flour and a little more butter. And make sure they're completely cool before you start dipping. I would also recommend using caramel dip instead of the 24 caramels. They were delicious, and you can't eat just one!

I absolutely love to make these cookies. They are not only delicious, but looked so pretty when they're finished. What I did with the caramel was I didn't use a bag of caramels, I used caramel dip that is used for fruit and it worked great. I've never had a problem with these cookies.

These cookies were time consuming as others have said, yet they were absolutely beautiful on the cookie exchange plate. I had my best friend Deb, sit with me, with a glass of wine while I made these, and time flew by. When the caramel hardens, you do have to add some water to thin it again. The chocolate also hardens quickly, but if you make this cookie in assembly line order, it will go much faster. Put on caramel and dip in nuts on all of them first. Then put on all the pecans and drizzle with chocolate at the same time. Everyone at work really enjoyed them. Deb too!

These were time consuming but looked delish! I found the cookies breaking because I hadn''t let them cool long enough and I used walnuts instead. I added a little cream to the caramel to help it not harden back up so much. Gave them as Christmas gifts and received rave reviews!
