Ingredients

Mint Simple syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bunch fresh mint, torn into pieces

Cocktail

  • 1 1/2 oz Kentucky Whisky
  • 1 oz mint syrup
  • Fresh mint for garnish
  • 8 oz glass or silver cup filled with crushed ice

Steps

  • 1
To make the mint simple syrup, add the water and the sugar to a small saucepan and boil for 1 to 2 minutes stirring until sugar is dissolved. Muddle mint slightly to release natural oils, stir it into the syrup mixture. Set aside to cool for about 10 minutes.
  • 2
Fill an 8-oz glass with crushed ice. Pour in the whisky and give it a good stir. Then top with the mint syrup and a few sprigs of fresh mint.
  • 3
    Enjoy slowly (and responsibly).

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
The mint syrup can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for several days.
  • tip 2
There is enough syrup to make several drinks.
  • tip 3
Be sure to just make one drink at a time so the crushed ice doesn’t melt too quickly.
  • tip 4
Traditionally this drink is served in a silver cup but if you can’t find one a glass will work fine.
