LOCATION

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Line 9-inch square pan with foil, letting foil hang 2 inches over sides of pan. Spray foil with cooking spray.
  • 2 In medium bowl, stir brownie mix, chocolate syrup, oil, water and eggs until well blended. Spread in pan.
  • 3 Bake 34 to 37 minutes or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely, about 1 1/2 hours.
  • 4 Using foil to lift, remove brownies from pan. With football-shaped cookie cutter, cut brownies into football shapes. Pipe on decorating icing to look like football laces.

EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

No football cookie cutter? You can use a knife. Just cut the brownies into 8 rectangles (4 rows by 2 rows). Trim corners of each rectangle to make a football shape.

For smaller footballs, cut brownies into 2x1-inch rectangles and trim to make football shapes.

I'm trying to percfet this recipe from scratch (I'm on my fifth revision). I'm finding you really need to compensate for the additional grease the bacon adds to the recipe by cutting your butter or oil by a third otherwise, they tend to be too greasy. I agree with the other posters about cutting up the bacon much better product in the end. I suggest mincing it and then cooking it until the pieces are barely crisp and then draining it, stirring it into the batter at the end. And definitely use the bacon grease instead of butter when flouring the baking pan to add more flavor. For some kick, I add a chopped chipotle pepper in adobo sauce (a scant tablespoon worth for a standard 9 x 9 pan recipe) stirred in at the end as well.

My brownie footballs came out great....I used a football cookie cutter and turned the brownies upside down to frost and decorate. Very easy and nice looking. I will use this for my next football get together.Yummy

Note to Terrisiriq: These brownies are not meant to be frosted - and the Wilton football cookie cutter makes quick work of cutting them out (the right tool for the job and all that). These football brownies are a Super Bowl tradition at my house - My family fights over the ends and pieces and my guests rave over the cute football shape.
