These delicate, crisp cookies have a rich, buttery flavor. You often see these cookies at family celebrations during the winter holidays, but they're perfect for any occasion.

This was my first time making spritz and I was surprised at how tasty and simple these were to make. The dough was really easy to work with and was the right consistency to help it stick to the sheet. These cookies have a very mild flavor but a nice, buttery aftertaste (I used vanilla extract). I drizzled some melted chocolate on them to make them a little more flavorful. I think next time I'll add more sugar to the dough, just because I like cookies to be a little sweeter, but they're still good without it. My dad and I really enjoyed these.

This is the best recipe for Spritz cookies. I have made them for the past 20 years and loved the way they looked in a holiday cookie tray. Each year I cursed because the dough did not want to make it to the cookie pan. This year I looked for a new recipe and was so happy with this one. This came out of the cookie gun with no problem . Thank you for making this cooking making easy.

I made these cookies years ago for my kids. This is the recipe I used from Better Homes and Gardens Version 1978 and it was very good. 1 c. butter 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 tsp. almond 2 1/3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking pwd. 1/4 tsp. salt This recipe says do not chill the dough. So go figure. I added coloring to color it. So there is a difference in recipes. I was going to try this till I saw your review. I think I will stick with mine. Hope this helps.

The recipe from the first edition Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook copyright 1950 was much better... Identical with this one except for the fact that it called for 2/3 cup of sugar instead of 1/2 cup, and 2 1/2 cups of sifted flour instead of 2 1/4 cups. No salt was added in the original recipe.

This recipe was awful! The cookies tasted nothing like the spritz cookies that I used to make with my dad. The dough was too sticky and I could not get it out of the press. I ended up just making little round balls and flattening them out. Once they were cooked, they ended up tasting awful. I'm going to try and get my hands on the recipe I used to know and love :)

These are my fav Christmas cookie! They are kind of tricky to make though.. you need to keep the dough chilled, only taking a little out of the fridge at a time. Otherwise, it will be wet, melty and it won't come out of the press right. They are the perfect cookie!

RE LALindsayAnne: If the butter is overly soft or melted that will make the dough harder to work with and give that ‘wet’ texture. Be sure that your butter is softened but not melted.

Spritzes are my FAVE Christmas cookie. However, our family adds flavored jello mix to the recipe rather than worrying about food coloring. Yummy! :)

This recipe was interesting - very "wet" - tried to add flour, that didn't work. Had no trouble getting them out of the cookie press, but they didn't bake well!
