Directions

  • 1 Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Soak in the same feeling that astronauts have, moments before liftoff.
  • 2 Scrub, dry, and poke 2 potatoes with a fork. Rub with olive oil. (The potatoes, not yourself.)
  • 3 Place potatoes directly on top oven rack and cook for 1 hour. Take a moment to reflect on the great accomplishments of your life and know that making The BROTATO will rank at least in the top 5.
  • 4 Grill 6 to 8 pieces of cubed steak or sirloin. Slice meat into smaller pieces. (If you even THOUGHT about substituting soy, please cut up your man card and make plans to go antiquing.)
  • 5 Fry 6 to 8 pieces of bacon. When finished, pat bacon lovingly with paper towel. Let cool and crumble.
  • 6 Steak n Suds Sauce. Place as much of your favorite steak sauce as you want into a small saucepan. Take what's left of the beer you're already drinking (if you haven't cracked open a cold one by this point, go ahead and de-activate the Brotato sequence and enjoy a salad) and pour that beer into the steak sauce. Bring to a boil and stir until desired thickness is reached. Put aside for Step 10.
  • 7 Remove potatoes from oven and downshift to 350 degrees.
  • 8 Cut potatoes in half, length-wise, while imagining that you're a great samurai. When finished, bow respectfully to the vanquished potaoes.
  • 9 Hollow out potato halves, leaving a thin layer of potato over skin; place pulp into a bowl. Assuming our math is correct, you now have 4 extremely manly potato canoes.
  • 10 Line potato skins with a layer of the Steak and Suds Sauce you so artfully created back in step 6.
  • 11 Add cut up steak or sirloin to potato skins. (Imagine that they're tiny passengers boarding the potato canoes, with one-way tickets to your belly.)
  • 12 Mix sour cream, butter, salt, and pepper into potato pulp. You'll thank us later.
  • 13 Add potato pulp into hollowed out potato halves, around and on top of the steak or sirloin. (If you need to pretend you're spackling something, that's acceptable. We're not here to judge.)
  • 14 On top of meat and potatoes, add shredded cheese and bacon crumbles (also known as the greatest condiments in the universe.)
  • 15 Place filled potato halves on a baking sheet and bake 15 minutes until heated through. In your mind, sing
  • 16 Add a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle chives on top. (Protip: unless you enjoy being openly mocked, do NOT use the terms
  • 17 Enjoy! Then go outside and do something manly, like cutting down a tree or wrestling a bear.
