Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried pinto beans (2 cups), sorted and rinsed
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 6 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps

    Mix all ingredients in 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker.

    Cover and cook on high heat setting 7 to 9 hours or until beans are tender.
