Full of old-fashioned flavor, tangy-sweet cabbage pairs well with pork roasts.

Didn't have quite as much grease as the recipe said it would after cooking the bacon and it didn't turn out that great. Not much of a cooked cabbage fan myself but I made this for my husband for our experimental "German Christmas" and it was the least liked dish.

I've made this recipe for years from an old BC Cookbook of mine that is falling apart. There are some differences from the original. Original recipe calls for: 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup of vinegar 1 tsp salt I would not alter quantities from the original recipe, it will change the taste. I've made this as a side with Turkey dinner and EVERYONE who has had it absolutely raves about it and wants the recipe. Also goes well with pork roast or pork tenderloin. Another thing missing from this online recipe is about steaming the red cabbage at the start. You need salt the water (1/2 tsp salt per cup of water, 1/2 inch of water in pot for shredded cabbage) and add 2 Tblsp vinegar to the water. Steam for 10 mins. This recipe is so good, you must try it, Sweet, Sour and oh o good!
