I made large muffins with this recipe. I also added 1/2 tsp. vanilla to the mix. And I too added a few more tbls. of milk. I put half the mix in each muffin slot, sprinkled some streusel over the top, then put the remaining mix on top of each muffin, and sprinkled the remaining streusel over the top of each muffin. I baked them for about 20 min. Yummy!

Love this recipe! Easy, cheap and delish. I made this exactly as the recipe was written. Very good served fresh out of the oven. I recommend warming slices up in microwave if the cake is cold.

I made this last week and I highly suggest doubling the Streusel and increasing the amount of milk by a few tablespoons. I added a layer of the Streusel in between the layers of cake as well. It tastes amazing !

To Cooking Gumby: My son is now 51 and a grandpa. We've been eating this cake since he was little. The beauty of this recipe is that you can make it anyway you want. We like to marblize it with two tablespoons of jam or marmelade, or substitute a small ripe banana, mashed well, for 1/2 of the milk. Give it a chance and experiment.

Someone read my mind!!! I have been looking all over for this recipe. When my oldest son (now 22) was a little boy it used to come printed on the side of the Bisquick box. I used to make this cake every week. I do have one hot tip, you might want to double the streusel topping, you know, just in case it doesn't all make out of the bowl and onto the cake. Just saying, something can happen on it's way from the bowl to the cake. I mean, first there is the quality control sample and it's all downhill from there!

I remember this when I took Home Economic class in JH. It was good then and still good. Easy but I like the topping in middle.

I agree with PapaFrog about the extra topping. I make a larger batch of the topping including using extra butter and cinnamon then swirl the topping down through the batter. I also use a little bit more milk to thin the batter out, bake at a lower temp and add 10 mins to the bake time. Comes out perfect every time.

This has always been a family from back when I was just a toddler. Over the years we have tried to jazz it up even more by adding walnuts, pecans, raisins, chocolate chips and the list goes on. One the grand kids like best is when I double up the topping and mix it into the coffee cake mix. No matter how we make it we think the basic recipe is what makes it great.
