Spiral Candle Cake

Celebrate! Dazzle birthday celebrants with a fun and clever candle decorating idea, not to mention a moist and delicious cake!

Ingredients

1
box Betty Crocker™ SuperMoist™ cake mix (any flavor)
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
Thin sparkler candles, 6 1/2x1/8 inch
Pencils
1
container Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy or Whipped frosting (any flavor)
Flat mint or rainbow candy-coating wafers, as desired
  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Make, bake and cool cake as directed on box for two 8-inch or 9-inch rounds.
  • 2 While cake is cooling, place candles in warm water until soft and pliable; wrap each candle around pencil. Cool candles about 15 seconds; remove pencils.
  • 3 Place 1 cake layer, rounded side down, on serving plate. Spread with about 1/3 cup frosting. Place other layer, rounded side up, on top. Frost side and top of cake with remaining frosting. Arrange candles and wafers on cake.

Expert Tips

The back of a tablespoon or serving spoon works well for swirling the frosting onto a cake.
