Soft Molasses Drop Cookies

Ingredients

cup sugar

cup sour cream

cup butter or margarine, softened

cup shortening

cup molasses

cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour*

teaspoons baking soda

teaspoon ground cinnamon
1
teaspoon ground ginger
1/2
teaspoon salt
Additional sugar

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, beat sugar, sour cream, butter, shortening, molasses and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger and salt.
  • 2 Onto ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
  • 3 Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched in center. Cool 1 to 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Sprinkle with additional sugar while warm.

Expert Tips

*If using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and salt.

Recipe Variation Soft Molasses Cookies with Vanilla Frosting: Bake and cool cookies as directed in step 3, except omit sprinkling with sugar. In large bowl, stir 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and 2 to 3 tablespoons milk until smooth and spreadable. Frost cookies.
